Terms
These terms apply when you use DNSalsa: the free dynamic DNS plan and the Remote subscription. They are written to be read. If something is unclear, ask us before you sign up.
Who we are
DNSalsa is run by iapp B.V., registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce (KvK) under number 42166243, Burcht 42, 5509 NP Veldhoven, the Netherlands. When these terms say "we", they mean iapp B.V. You can reach us at [email protected].
Together with these terms, our acceptable use policy applies. Our privacy policy explains what we do with your data.
Your account
You sign in with a passkey. Keep the devices that hold your passkey, and the update tokens of your hostnames, to yourself: whoever has them can change your hostnames. We need a confirmed email address to create hostnames and subscriptions, and we send account, security and subscription messages to it.
You must be at least 16 to use DNSalsa, and 18 to start a subscription. You can delete your account at any time in the dashboard. Cancel a running subscription first.
The free plan
Dynamic DNS is free. The free plan gives you one hostname under dnsalsa.nl with an IPv4 (A) record, updated at most once every 30 seconds. It comes without support: the dashboard and this website are all you get.
A free hostname must stay in use. If it gets no update call for 90 days, we email you, and 14 days later we release it. An update with an unchanged IP counts as use. After we release a name, nobody else can take it for 90 days; you can claim it back in that time.
The Remote subscription
Remote makes a service at home, such as Home Assistant, reachable from anywhere through a Cloudflare Tunnel, without port forwarding. One subscription covers one tunnel, with up to two extra addresses on the same tunnel and one extra hostname. You can add more tunnels to the same subscription; each costs the same.
Remote costs €2.50 a month or €25 a year, including VAT. Customers in another EU country pay the VAT rate of their own country; the price stays the same. Businesses with a valid VAT number outside the Netherlands pay no VAT (reverse charge).
Your first subscription starts with a free month. You enter a payment method at the start, and we charge nothing until the free month ends. Cancel before then and you pay nothing at all.
Payments go through Stripe, with iDEAL, SEPA Direct Debit or a card. After that, the subscription renews automatically each month or year, and Stripe charges the same payment method. You get a receipt by email for every payment.
Cancelling
You can cancel at any time under Manage subscription in the dashboard. The subscription then ends at the end of the period you paid for, and your tunnel keeps working until that date. We don't refund the rest of a month.
A yearly subscription runs for one year. If it renews after that first year, you can cancel the renewed subscription at any time with one month's notice. We then refund the full months you paid for but won't use. Email [email protected] for that refund.
When a subscription ends, your tunnel is paused: the address shows a page saying so, and the tunnel itself stays ready. Start a subscription again and it works within a minute. After 90 days paused, we delete the tunnel. The hostname stays yours as a free dynamic DNS name.
Right of withdrawal
If you are a consumer in the EU, you can withdraw from a subscription within 14 days after you start it, without giving a reason. In the dashboard, under Subscription, press Withdraw from contract here and then Confirm withdrawal. The subscription ends right away, we refund everything you paid for it, and we confirm your withdrawal by email. You can also email us at [email protected], for example with this text:
To iapp B.V. (DNSalsa), Burcht 42, 5509 NP Veldhoven, [email protected]: I hereby withdraw from my contract for the DNSalsa Remote subscription, started on [date]. Name: [name]. Email address of my account: [email]. Date: [date].
Refunds go back to the way you paid, within 14 days of your withdrawal. A direct debit that is still being processed is refunded as soon as it clears.
When a payment fails
If a payment fails, Stripe emails you and tries again over the next two weeks. Your tunnel keeps working for 14 days. If the payment still hasn't succeeded by then, we pause the tunnel until it does.
Fair use and acceptable use
Tunnel traffic is fair use, up to 100 GB per account per month. We email you at 80% and 100%; we don't switch anything off automatically, but if you keep using much more, we contact you. Streaming video through a tunnel is not allowed. The acceptable use policy lists what is and isn't allowed, and what we do when something's wrong.
What you're responsible for
You decide what you make reachable through DNSalsa, and you are responsible for it. Anyone on the internet can open your addresses, so only expose services with their own login and keep them up to date. Follow the law and the acceptable use policy, and don't use DNSalsa to harm others.
What we do, and what we don't promise
We do our best to keep DNSalsa running and secure, but we don't guarantee that it is always available or free of errors. DNSalsa depends on Cloudflare for DNS and tunnels; when Cloudflare has a problem, DNSalsa can have one too. We may change how the service works, as long as what you pay for keeps working as described here.
Our liability is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the damage, and we are not liable for indirect damage such as lost data or lost income. This limit doesn't apply to damage we cause on purpose or through gross negligence, or where the law doesn't allow it.
When we end or suspend
We may suspend or end your account or a tunnel right away if you break these terms or the acceptable use policy, or if the law or a court order requires it. If it's not urgent, we warn you first and give you time to fix it. If we stop the Remote service or end your subscription without it being your fault, we refund the part you paid for and haven't used.
Changes
If we change these terms or the price in a way that affects you, we email you at least 30 days before the change. A price change applies from your next renewal after that. If you don't agree, you can cancel before the change takes effect.
If part of these terms doesn't hold
If a court finds part of these terms invalid or unenforceable, the rest stays in force. We then replace that part with a valid rule that comes as close as possible to what the original part intended.
Law and disputes
Dutch law applies. If you have a complaint, email [email protected] first; we answer within 14 days. Disputes go to the competent court in the Netherlands. If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory law of the country where you live, and you can also go to the court there.
